Introducing . . . Writer's Workshop
EIghth Grade grammar has been re-named "Writer's Workshop." This class, which meets three days a week, will focus on helping students become stronger writers through constant practice. Students will hone their skills by writing, revising, sharing and conferencing.
Writer's Workshop:
New angle, even more strengths
In seventh and eighth grade, the former Grammar model has been altered to reflect a more writing intensive focus. Since the lower school and middle school curriculums have provided a strong grammar and writing foundation for our students, we are shifting our direction to increase writing frequency. Each session will have a mini-lesson with modeling, then students will write using the skills and techniques modeled, and after several sessions, students will build toward published pieces. Publishing takes many forms: traditional typed final draft, display in hallway or on websites, submission to a contest or magazine/newspaper, video, coffee shop reading, and other ways yet to be explored.
